PM Modi security breach: Bathinda SP Gurvinder Sanga, who was on duty during incident, suspended
PTC News Desk: Superintendent of Police (SP) Gurvinder Singh Sanga has been suspended after the security of Prime Minister Narendra Modi's convoy was breached in Ferozepur on January 5, 2022.
Gurvinder Sanga was the Superintendent of Police in Ferozepur at the time of the incident. Following the incident, an extensive probe was launched, and action has now been taken in the case from last year.
"Gurvinder Singh Sanga has been suspended for negligence in duty. Gurvinder Singh was then SP Operation, Ferozepur. Gurvinder Singh is currently posted in Bathinda,” as per Punjab DGP report
The Supreme Court stated in August that a five-member committee appointed by it determined that Ferozepur SSP failed to discharge his duties, despite the fact that sufficient forces were available during Prime Minister Narendra Modi's visit to Punjab on January 5.
While reading from the committee's report, a bench of Chief Justice NV Ramana and Justices Surya Kant and Hima Kohli stated that the committee, headed by a former top court judge, Justice Indu Malhotra, stated that an oversight committee for periodic revision of the 'Blue Book' should be formed.
"The Ferozepur SSP failed to discharge his duty to maintain law and order. He failed to do this even though sufficient force was available and even though he was informed two hours in advance that the Prime Minister would enter that route," it added.
The Prime Minister was stuck atop a flyover for 15-20 minutes in January 2022 on his way to Ferozpur, Punjab, because the road was blocked by protesters. His security lapse was termed as a "major lapse" by the Ministry of Home Affairs.
