PM Modi champions democratisation of technology and high-quality data at G20 ministers' meet
Varanasi, June 12: Prime Minister Narendra Modi highlighted the transformative impact of digitalisation in India during a special video address at the G20 Development Ministers' meeting held in Varanasi under the G20 Indian Presidency.
In his address, PM Modi emphasised the importance of high-quality data for effective policy-making, efficient resource allocation, and improved public service delivery. He underscored the need to democratize technology as a critical tool to bridge the data divide and mentioned that India is willing to share its experiences with partner countries.
Welcoming the delegates to Varanasi, the Prime Minister referred to the city as the oldest living city of the mother of democracy. He emphasised its significance as a center of knowledge, culture, and spirituality, reflecting India's diverse heritage. PM Modi expressed his delight that the G20 development agenda had reached Varanasi, underscoring the core issue of development for the Global South.

He urged collective responsibility to ensure the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) are not left behind, especially considering the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic and geopolitical tensions.
PM Modi stressed the need for comprehensive, inclusive, fair, and sustainable efforts to achieve the SDGs. He called for increased investment in fulfilling these goals and finding solutions to address the debt risks faced by many countries. The Prime Minister highlighted India's initiatives in improving the lives of people in over a hundred Aspirational Districts, which have now become catalysts for growth in the country. He invited G20 Development Ministers to study this model of development for accelerating Agenda 2030.
Addressing the data divide, PM Modi underscored the critical role of high-quality data in policy-making and public service delivery. He described India's digitalization efforts as revolutionary, empowering people and ensuring inclusivity.
The Prime Minister expressed India's willingness to share its experiences and encouraged tangible actions to promote data for discourse, development, and delivery in developing countries.

PM Modi also touched upon environmental concerns, emphasising India's pro-planet lifestyle rooted in traditional Indian thought that respects nature. He highlighted the launch of Mission LiFE, aimed at developing a set of High-Level Principles in collaboration with the UN Secretary-General, contributing to climate action.
Gender equality and women empowerment were recognised as crucial for achieving the SDGs. The Prime Minister emphasized that India's focus extends beyond women empowerment to women-led development. He called for the adoption of a game-changing Action Plan for Women-led Development.
PM Modi concluded by encouraging the dignitaries to explore and experience the spirit of Varanasi, including witnessing the Ganga Aarti and visiting Sarnath, expressing confidence that these experiences would inspire them to achieve their desired results.
The Prime Minister extended his best wishes for the success of the deliberations in promoting Agenda 2030 and fulfilling the aspirations of the Global South.
