PM Modi calls 'Men in Blue', extends congratulations on T20 World Cup victory

PTC News Desk: On Sunday, Indian cricket players received a call from Prime Minister Narendra Modi, who congratulated them on their seven-run triumph against South Africa in the ICC T20 World Cup final.

The Prime Minister complimented Rohit Sharma for his outstanding T20I career and lauded him for his captaincy during the conversation.


Virat Kohli, who amassed an important 76 runs, and his enormous achievements to Indian cricket were specifically mentioned by PM Modi. He also praised Rahul Dravid for his services to Indian cricket, after the former head coach resigned after India's victory.

The Prime Minister praised Suryakumar Yadav for the game-changing catch that got rid of South African hitter David Miller and Hardik Pandya for his valiant efforts in the final over.He also praised Jasprit Bumrah's services to Indian cricket at the T20 World Cup.

The 'Men in Blue' defeated South Africa in the T20 World Cup see-saw final at Kensington Oval in Bridgetown, Barbados, on Saturday, according to a video message given by Prime Minister Modi.

"Victims! Our group returns from the T20 World Cup in style! Our pride in the Indian cricket squad is strong. He tweeted, "This match was HISTORIC," along with a team-supporting video message.

After winning the inaugural T20 World Cup in 2007, this was India's second World Cup victory in 17 years. Additionally, Team India had not won a significant ICC championship in 11 years, with the Champions Trophy coming in 2013.
