People celebrating Eid-ul-Fitr across India: Spreading peace, love and brotherhood
New Delhi, April 22: Muslims across India and around the world celebrated the festival of Eid-ul-Fitr on Saturday with prayers and well-wishes. People gathered at the Jama Masjid in Delhi to offer namaz and hugged each other in celebration.
A man who attended the prayer said, "I extend my wishes to the entire country on the occasion of Eid. This is a very important occasion after the 30 days of fasting. Delicious food items will be made in our houses today." He went on to say that the festival sends the message of peace, brotherhood, humanity and love, and that he hopes all evils are removed from the country and happiness spreads everywhere.

The Delhi Police were on hand to ensure the safety and security of those who attended the prayers. Special Commissioner of Police Dependra Pathak said, "This is a time of joy and festivities. Delhi Police has professional excellence in crowd management, especially when it comes to festivals or celebrations." He added that thousands of police personnel had been deployed in the Central District, both in uniform and in civilian clothes.
In Mumbai, people attended the prayers at Mahim Dargah, and in Bhopal the festival was celebrated on a grand scale at Eidgah.
Eid-ul-Fitr marks the end of the holy month of Ramzan and signifies the beginning of the new Islamic year. The observance of the moon is essential for ending Ramzan month and celebrating Eid, and as such it is celebrated in different parts on different days.
