PTC Web Desk: Patients visiting PGI Chandigarh will no longer need to stand in long lines to create their OPD cards, thanks to a new initiative being introduced by the hospital management. Under this plan, patients can now create their OPD cards through Sampark Centre, aimed at reducing crowding and streamlining the registration process.

Deputy Director, PGI, Pankaj Rai said PGI had recently upgraded its Hospital Information System (HIS) to version 2, which would promote online registration for OPD services. This move is particularly beneficial for patients from remote areas who struggle with long waiting times at the hospital.

Sampark Centre will be especially helpful for those with limited technological knowledge, offering a simpler way to register without navigating the online system. This initiative is expected to reduce congestion in the hospital and save time for patients.

A similar service was introduced in 2023 at Government Multi-Specialty Hospital (GMSH) in Sector 16, allowing patients to create cards via Sampark Centre. However, this service did not gain much traction as Sampark Centre charged a fee of Rs 10 for the card, whereas the hospital offers free registration.

As per information, the PGI has also expanded online registration services at its eye centre, increasing the daily slots from 150 to 200. With around 1,500 patients visiting eye centre every day, those who register online are given priority. Depending on the response, the PGI may further increase the number of online slots.

PGI sees around 10,000 patients daily in its OPD, with registration counters open only from 8 am to 11 am. To manage the heavy influx and reduce waiting times, the hospital administration is focusing on technological solutions to make the process smoother and faster for patients.
