Passenger urinates on co-traveller during Air India’s Delhi-Bangkok flight

PTC Web Desk:  An Indian passenger on board an Air India flight from Delhi to Bangkok allegedly urinated on a fellow passenger, triggering yet another controversy for the national carrier. The incident took place on Wednesday aboard flight AI2336 and was officially confirmed by the airline in a statement issued later in the day.

According to the statement, the Air India crew followed all standard operating procedures as outlined by the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA). “Air India confirms that an incident of unruly passenger behaviour was reported on flight AI2336 operating from Delhi to Bangkok on April 9, 2025. The cabin crew responded as per the laid-down protocols, and the matter has been duly reported to the relevant authorities,” the airline said.

The airline further noted that the accused was issued a warning mid-flight. The victim, reportedly an employee of a well-known multinational corporation, was offered assistance by the crew to file a complaint with the Bangkok authorities. However, the offer was declined at the time.

“In addition to issuing a warning to the unruly individual, our crew offered support to the aggrieved passenger to lodge a grievance with the authorities in Bangkok. This offer was declined,” Air India’s statement read. “An independent committee will review the incident and decide on further action, if necessary.”

This episode comes in the wake of a similar high-profile case in 2022 involving Shankar Mishra, a Mumbai-based executive who allegedly urinated on an elderly woman during an Air India flight from New York to Delhi. That incident drew widespread outrage. Mishra, then a vice president at Wells Fargo India, was later charged with sexual harassment and public obscenity by the Delhi Police and was banned from flying for 30 days.
