Parliamentary panel to summon Meta chief Mark Zuckerberg over Lok Sabha results claims
PTC News Desk: Trouble seems to be mounting for Meta as parliamentary panel has summoned Mark Zuckerberg over his Lok Sabha election claims. A parliamentary panel rebuked Zuckerberg's controversial remarks over the results of general elections held in India.
Chairperson of the Parliamentary Standing Committee on Communications and Information Technology, Nishikant Dubey called for an apology over spreading misinformation that stirred a row.
"My committee will call Meta for this disinformation. Misinformation in any democratic country tarnishes the image of the country. That organisation will have to apologise to the Indian Parliament and the people here for this mistake," Dubey said in a post on X.
Earier, Zuckerberg during a podcast with Joe Rogan suggested that most incumbent governments worldwide, including India, were defeated in elections held post-Covid-19.
In response to Zuckerberg's claims, he was later fact checked by Union Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw who refuted his claims while rebuked him of spreading misinformation. He took to his social media and said, " Mr. Zuckerberg’s claim that most incumbent governments, including India in 2024 elections, lost post-COVID is factually incorrect."
"It’s disappointing to see misinformation from Mr. Zuckerberg himself. Let’s uphold facts and credibility," Vaishnaw said.
