Over 100 Air India passengers stranded in Phuket for 80 hours due to repeated flight delays
Air India flight delay news: More than 100 passengers on a New Delhi-bound Air India flight have been stranded in Thailand’s Phuket for more than 80 hours following multiple delays caused by technical issues, according to several social media posts shared by the passengers.
The Air India flight, initially scheduled to depart on the night of November 16, was delayed by six hours due to a reported technical fault. Passengers claim that after a lengthy wait at the airport, they were instructed to board the plane, only to be deboarded an hour later when the flight was ultimately cancelled.
Among those stranded were elderly passengers and children. The following day, the airline reportedly prepped the same plane for departure, claiming the earlier fault had been fixed. However, about two and a half hours into the flight, the plane was forced to return to Phuket due to another technical issue. Passengers were then left stuck at the airport with no clear answers from Air India representatives, according to their social media posts.
Flight tracking data from FlightRadar confirmed the plane's two-hour flight before it returned to Phuket.
Sources in Air India clarified that the initial delay on November 16 was due to duty time limitations. On November 17, after the plane had taken off, another technical fault emerged, prompting an emergency landing.
In response to the situation, Air India confirmed that accommodation was provided for the stranded passengers, and some had already been sent back. Approximately 40 passengers remain in Phuket, with plans for their return scheduled for later on Tuesday. The airline also stated that passengers would be reimbursed for their inconvenience.
