PTC Web Desk: On the occasion of World Liver Day, Union Home Minister Amit Shah emphasised the importance of lifestyle changes for the well-being of India's youth. Speaking at an event organised by the Institute of Liver and Biliary Sciences (ILBS) in New Delhi, Shah urged young citizens to prioritise health to ensure a long and productive life.

Citing his personal experience, Amit Shah shared, “If the youth of our country want to remain healthy and fit, they must change their daily routines. I’m speaking from personal experience.” He further advised, “India’s youth have 40–50 more years to contribute to the nation’s progress. I request them to dedicate two hours daily for physical exercise and reserve six hours for sound sleep.”

Highlighting a personal transformation since May 2020, Shah said, “Since then, I’ve adopted significant changes in my lifestyle. Proper sleep, hydration, nutrition, and regular exercise have brought immense benefits to me.”

He proudly declared that he now lives free from all allopathic medications and insulin. “I’m standing before you today medication-free, and I wanted to share this journey with you,” he said.

Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta, also present at the event, emphasised the need for robust healthcare infrastructure. “On this Liver Day, we must pledge that no one in the country should struggle for health services. Delhi’s healthcare system is not just for locals—people from across India and abroad come here for treatment. It is our responsibility to strengthen this infrastructure,” she said.

Delhi Lieutenant Governor VK Saxena praised the current administration’s focus on health. “Under the leadership of CM Rekha Gupta, the new Delhi government has prioritised healthcare in its policy agenda. Due to the shortcomings of previous administrations, Delhi had lagged behind,” he said.

He lauded ILBS as the only institution of its kind with global recognition. “For over a decade, ILBS has been a WHO Collaborative Centre for Liver Diseases, and it continues to set international standards in liver care,” Saxena added.

PM Modi's message on World Liver Day

On social media, Prime Minister Narendra Modi commended the awareness efforts on World Liver Day, writing:

“#WorldLiverDay is a commendable initiative to promote mindful eating and healthy living. Small changes, like reducing oil intake, can lead to major health benefits. Let us raise awareness about obesity and work together to build a healthy and fit India. #StopObesity”
