On Assam visit, PM Modi explores Kaziranga National Park with elephant & jeep safaris
PTC News Desk: Prime Minister Narendra Modi embarked on a memorable excursion at Assam's renowned Kaziranga National Park and Tiger Reserve, participating in both an elephant safari and a jeep safari, reported officials.
This inaugural visit to the UNESCO World Heritage Site saw PM Modi commence his exploration with an elephant safari in the Mihimukh area of the Central Kohora Range within the park. Subsequently, he proceeded with a jeep safari within the same range, accompanied by park director Sonali Ghosh and other esteemed forest officials.

The Prime Minister's arrival at Kaziranga took place on Friday evening, marking the commencement of a two-day visit to the state, where he engaged in various activities of significance.
In the afternoon, PM Modi is slated to inaugurate the imposing 125-ft high 'Statue of Valour' dedicated to the legendary Ahom general, Lachit Barphukan, situated in Jorhat. Following this event, he will proceed to Meleng Meteli Pothar, also located in Jorhat district, where he will ceremoniously inaugurate and lay foundation stones for a multitude of central and state projects, collectively valued at approximately Rs 18,000 crore.

Additionally, the Prime Minister is scheduled to address a public gathering at the same venue, where he is expected to engage with the local populace on various developmental initiatives and government schemes.

• Kaziranga National Park boasts the prestigious status of being a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
• Celebrated for its iconic population of Greater one-horned rhinoceroses, the park also serves as a habitat for elephants, wild water buffalo, swamp deer, and tigers.
• Kaziranga holds significant importance as a breeding ground for elephants, wild water buffalo, and swamp deer. The tiger population has notably expanded, leading to its establishment as a Tiger Reserve in 2006.
• Acknowledged as an Important Bird Area by BirdLife International, the park contributes significantly to the conservation of avian species.
• During the winter season, Kaziranga becomes a haven for migratory birds such as the lesser white-fronted goose, ferruginous duck, Baer’s pochard duck, lesser adjutant, greater adjutant, black-necked stork, and Asian Openbill stork, journeying from Central Asia to the park's welcoming environs.
