Nuh violence death toll reaches five, 70 people taken into custody: Haryana CM Khattar

Nuh violence: A day after deadly communal clashes in Haryana's Nuh, state Chief Minister Manohar Lak Khattar held a high-level meeting with state home minister Anil Vij and other officials. The death toll in the incident has risen to five, with 2 police officials and three civilians among the deceased, said Haryana Chief Minister.

CM Khattar on Tuesday termed the incident 'unfortunate' and assured that those responsible won't be spared. "Whatever happened in Nuh is unfortunate; senior police officers and administration were immediately dispatched as soon as the incident came to light," he said.

"A mob attacked a religious procession that takes place every year, setting fire to vehicles and even targeting the police. The havoc created during the procession hints at a well-planned conspiracy and a larger plot," he added.

Currently, the situation is under control in Nuh. So far, several FIRs have been filed, and a total of 70 people have been taken into custody, the CM added.

Further, Chief Minister assured that "those responsible won't be spared" and urged the public to maintain peace and harmony.

Haryana Nuh clashes

On Monday afternoon, clashes erupted in Haryana's Nuh district when a religious procession going through the district was attacked. At least two home guards were killed in the incident, and many were injured, including police officers. By Monday evening, the violence had expanded to other parts of Haryana, with violence being reported from Sohna in the Gurugram district.

Dozens more suffered injuries in the ongoing conflict, including around 20 policemen.

20 companies of CAPFs dispatched

The Haryana government issued prohibitory orders in Nuh and Gurugram on Monday under Section 144 of the CrpC, with the Centre dispatching 20 companies of the Central Armed Police Forces (CAPFs) to handle the situation in the state.

The Haryana government also issued an order late Monday night, declaring the closure of schools in Gurugram, Faridabad, and Palwal on Tuesday.
