No request from US on Gautam Adani's arrest warrant: MEA clarifies
PTC Web Desk: The Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) has clarified that it has not received any formal request from the US authorities regarding an arrest warrant issued against industrialist Gautam Adani. This statement comes amid reports of an indictment by the US Department of Justice, accusing Gautam Adani of bribery and financial misconduct.
MEA spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal said during a press briefing that the issue was strictly a legal matter involving private firms and individuals. He added that if the US authorities were to seek legal action in India, they would need to notify the Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA), which would then examine the request through established legal protocols.
The indictment against Gautam Adani reportedly includes allegations of bribing officials to secure solar energy contracts in India and providing misleading financial information to American investors. If US authorities pursue legal proceedings, they are expected to invoke the India-US extradition treaty, which requires them to present evidence linking Adani’s alleged actions to violations of US law.
Jaiswal further confirmed that the government was not informed about the case in advance and has not engaged in discussions with US officials on the matter. "Any request for legal assistance or the execution of a summons or arrest warrant from a foreign government is reviewed on a case-by-case basis. No such request has been received in this instance," he said.
Meanwhile, the Adani Group has dismissed the accusations as "unfounded" and has pledged to address the issue through appropriate legal channels. The spokesperson reiterated that the government is not directly involved at this stage, as the matter concerns private entities.
