NIA arrests agent in Delhi for sending youth to US via donkey route
PTC Web Desk: The National Investigation Agency (NIA) on Sunday arrested an immigration agent from Delhi for illegally sending youth to the United States via donkey route in exchange for large sums of money. The accused, Gagandeep Singh alias Goldy, a resident of Tilak Nagar, Delhi, was allegedly running an illegal immigration network, promising safe passage to the US while putting lives at risk.
The case originated from Punjab’s Tarn Taran district, where a man was sent to the US via an illegal immigration route in December 2024 after paying the accused Rs 45 lakh. However, on February 15, 2025, the US authorities deported him back to India. Following his return, the victim filed a complaint, leading to an investigation by the Punjab Police, which later transferred the case to the NIA on March 13, 2025.
After a 17-day probe, the NIA arrested Goldy, who was identified as a key player in the human trafficking network.
Investigations revealed that Goldy had no legal license or authorisation to facilitate international travel. He sent the victim through an illegal route involving Spain, El Salvador, Guatemala, and Mexico before reaching the US border. During this journey, Goldy’s associates allegedly assaulted, exploited, and robbed the victim of his US dollars.
Following Goldy’s arrest, the NIA has intensified its investigation to track down other members involved in the human trafficking operation. Officials are working to identify the wider network facilitating illegal immigration through high-risk international routes.
