NEET-UG, UGC-NET row: Centre reveals troubling darknet aspect; Congress plans protest | Key Points

PTC News Desk: Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan has pledged that the National Testing Agency, which administers these entrance tests, will be tightened and that those accountable for paper leaks will face consequences amid widespread indignation about anomalies in NEET-UG and UGC-NET.

Over the NEET controversy, the Congress is anticipated to launch a significant national protest today. Supporters are being urged by the party's general secretary, KC Venugopal, to demonstrate at district headquarters against anomalies in the medical admission tests.

Since the release of the NEET-UG results earlier this month, thousands of those aspiring to become doctors have been protesting. There were concerns about possible irregularities in the test administration after dozens of candidates passed one of the hardest exams in the nation with a perfect score of 720.

Ten aspects about NEET-UG and UGC-NET rows are as follows:

  1. The administration is dedicated to conducting tests with no mistakes, the minister stated on Thursday. To assist NTA in enhancing its operations, a high-level committee has been established.

  2. More than 1500 students who received grace marks had their exams canceled by the authorities. Due to some procedural mishandling, the first issue with NEET that was discovered concerned the grace mark. A few students became agitated, people went to court, and panic spread. Later, in order to reexamine the students who received grace marks, the National Testing Agency (NTA) filed a new appeal with the court. Thus, the primary NEET-related problem has been resolved, according to Pradhan.

  3. The UGC-NET exam was canceled by the administration earlier this week after discovering that the question material had been leaked online. The minister referred to it as a National Testing Agency (NTA) institutional breakdown. "The NTA's institutional weakness is the paper leak. He declared, "We are promising you that there will be a reform committee and that steps would be taken.

  4. According to the government, the UGC-NET exam's cancellation was not a snap decision. Following evidence that the material had been leaked on the darknet, the authorities decided to cancel the exam. On Telegram, it was also doing the rounds.

  5. The high-level committee will offer suggestions on how to enhance NTA's operations, structure, transparency, examination procedure, and data security measures. The panel will include specialists from around the world.

  6. Anurag Yadav, a NEET candidate, his uncle, and two other individuals were among the four persons detained in Bihar earlier this week for obtaining the leaked test paper. "After that, some problems from Patna surfaced. Thanks to prompt action, everyone responsible was apprehended, and additional investigation is currently in progress. To bring it to a rational conclusion, officials from the central and Bihar governments are collaborating," stated Pradhan.

  7. The CBI has been tasked by the Central government with looking into the UGC-NET paper leak case. June 18 was the exam day. The results of the May 5 NEET exam were released on June 4. A massive 67 pupils achieved a perfect score of 720, which sparked concerns about a possible paper leak.

  8. Rahul Gandhi, the leader of the Congress, stated on Thursday that the education system had supposedly been taken over by the BJP's "parent organisation" (RSS), which was the primary cause of the document leak. The youth of the nation are bearing the burden of this anti-national action, which is made worse by the PM's crippling silence about it. This is the country's future. The PM's primary agenda item at the moment is the (election of) Speaker. The Speaker and his government are bothering him. He declared, "The PM will find it difficult to lead a government in this state as he has psychologically collapsed."

  9. The Ministry of Education has stated that it will take additional measures after receiving a report from the Economic Offenses Unit of the Bihar Police regarding purported anomalies in the NEET program's administration in Patna.

  10. The key suspect in the NEET "paper leak" who was detained, according to Bihar's deputy chief minister Vijay Kumar Sinha, is connected to people who work with RJD leader Tejashwi Yadav.
