NEET UG 2024 result: Supreme Court issues notice to Centre and NTA on plea seeking CBI probe into 'paper leak'
PTC News Desk: On July 8 for the hearing on the seven petitions that it received on Friday contesting the way the NEET-UG 2024 exam was administered. In one of the petitions, the Central Bureau of Investigation was asked to look into the claimed paper leak. In response to the plea requesting that the CBI look into the anomalies in NEET-UG 2024, the court sent letters to the Center and the National Testing Agency, or NTA.
In response to a request by the National Testing Agency to transfer cases on the NEET-UG issue that are proceeding in several high courts to the highest court in order to prevent multiple lawsuits, the Supreme Court also sent notices to private parties. The court ordered that the same be discussed on July 8.
The National Eligibility cum Entrance Test-Under Graduate, 2024, is being cancelled due to allegations of question paper leaks and other malpractices, according to a submission made by the NTA counsel. This was noted by a vacation bench consisting of Justices Vikram Nath and Sandeep Mehta. Several high courts are currently considering these pleas.
"Issue notice," the bench declared, adding that a hearing would be held on July 8.
Meanwhile, the NTA announced that it intended to withdraw three other applications that sought to transfer cases from higher courts to the supreme court. These petitions dealt with the awarding of grace marks to 1,563 candidates who were late for the May 5 exam.
The NTA's attorney declared that the matter had been resolved and that he would notify the Supreme Court of the decision to revoke the compensatory marks awarded to 1,536 candidates as well as the ensuing June 13 ruling.
The Center and the NTA informed the Supreme Court on Thursday that they had revoked the grace marks granted to 1,563 applicants who took the exam in order to be admitted to MBBS and other similar programmes, amidst a furious dispute over the NEET-UG exam.

About 24 lakh students sat the exam, which was administered on May 5 at 4,750 locations. Although the results were supposed to be released on June 14, they were instead revealed on June 4, perhaps as a result of the answer sheet examination being finished sooner.
Protests in multiple locations and cases filed in seven high courts, including the Supreme Court, have resulted from the charges. On June 10, a large number of students demonstrated in Delhi to demand an investigation into purported anomalies.
An unprecedented number of 67 students achieved a perfect score of 720 in the history of the NTA. Six from a center in Faridabad, Haryana, were on the list, which led to concerns about anomalies. Grace marks are said to have played a part in 67 students sharing the top spot.
For admission to MBBS, BDS, AYUSH, and other courses linked to government and private universities across the country, the NTA administers the NEET-UG exam.
