Muzaffarnagar issues new guidelines for eateries along Kanwar Yatra route following controversy

PTC News Desk: In response to criticism from the opposition and NDA allies, police in Muzaffarnagar, Uttar Pradesh, issued a new advise on Thursday making it "voluntary" for restaurants along the Kanwar Yatra route to publish the names of their owners.

The Muzaffarnagar Police stated in a post on X that their goal was to help pilgrims traveling through the area and avoid any unpleasant situations, not to incite religious prejudice of any way.

Muzaffarnagar is situated on the Kanwar Yatra route, halfway between Delhi and Haridwar.

According to the Muzaffarnagar Police, "many people, especially Kanwariyas, abstain from certain food items in their diet during the holy month of Shravan."

"In the past, stories of certain shopkeepers on Kanwar Marg offering a wide variety of food goods naming their establishments in a way that confused the Kanwariyas and jeopardized law and order have surfaced. Hotels, dhabas, and food vendors on Kanwar Marg have been asked to voluntarily post the identities of their owners and staff in order to stop this kind of incident from happening again. The caution went on, "This system has also been used in the past.

OWAISI, AKHILESH YADAV SLAM UP GOVERNMENT

The new recommendation was issued in response to strong criticism of the administration's previous directive requiring restaurants, including roadside carts, to post the names of the proprietors in front of their establishments. Officers had also begun to carry out the directive.

Asaduddin Owaisi, the MP for Hyderabad and leader of AIMIM, criticised the Uttar Pradesh police, drawing comparisons between the action and 'apartheid' in South Africa and 'Judenboycott' in Hitler's Germany.

"As per the order of the Uttar Pradesh Police, now every food shop or cart owner will have to put his name on the board so that no Kanwariya buys anything from a Muslim shop by mistake," Owaisi wrote on Twitter.

President and MP for the Samajwadi Party Akhilesh Yadav urged the court to exercise suo motu cognizance, look into the government's motivations for issuing such an order, and take appropriate remedial measures. Social crimes, such as these orders are. The administration seeks to destroy the tranquil environment," he declared.

Maulana Sufiyan Nizami, the spokesperson for Darul Uloom, stated that politics shouldn't be based on such sectarian bias since it is improper.

"This order is incorrect because no faith discriminates against other religions. Muslims also organize the Kanwar pilgrimage, while Hindu brothers assist with the removal of Tazias. Nizami stated, "We must make sure that fraternity is upheld.
