Mumbai road rage: Mob beats biker after he attacks woman pedestrian with helmet
Mumbai road rage: In a road rage incident in south Mumbai, a crowd beat up a biker who reportedly attacked a woman pedestrian and hit her with his helmet, police said on Sunday.
Following the incident on Saturday night, police apprehended biker Shahen Alam Sheikh (33), who was later released after being served with a notice, according to an official.
According to the police, the woman was waiting for a cab on Nizam Street under the JJ flyover when the accused, riding his motorcycle, hit her leg.
After the woman cautioned him, the accused began verbally abusing her, pushing her on the road and hitting her in the head with his helmet, according to the official.
A mob quickly gathered at the scene and began beating up Sheikh, who attempted to flee by claiming to be a police officer, he added.
The local police quickly intervened, rescuing Sheikh from the mob's hold and taking him to a nearby hospital, the officer said, adding that the accused's two-wheeler was damaged in the attack.
According to the woman's complaint, a case was filed against Sheikh under sections 118 (voluntarily causing hurt or grievous hurt by dangerous weapons or means), 79 (acts intended to insult a woman's modesty) and other relevant provisions of the Bhartiya Nyay Sanhita (BNS).
