Mumbai BMW accident | Mihir Shah arrested: How Mumbai police caught politician's son in 72 hours?
Mumbai BMW accident: Mihir Shah, the absconding accused in the Mumbai BMW case and the son of Shiv Sena leader Rajesh Shah, was nabbed by police on Tuesday, two days after allegedly ramming his luxury car into a two-wheeler. A woman was dragged to death and her husband was injured in the accident.
Mihir Shah, 24, was arrested in Virar after eluding police since Sunday morning. Mihir Shah's mother and two sisters were brought to Mumbai for questioning from Shahapur. They are being questioned alongside ten others, reportedly.
Mihir Shah was tracked down by police using the mobile phone of a friend of the main accused. According to sources, it took the Mumbai Police three days to apprehend the accused after he, his mother, and sisters turned off their cell phones.
The cops had been looking for the family members by their car numbers. The phone number of Mihir's friend was also being tracked.
Mihir Shah left his family last night and went with a friend to Virar, some 65 km from Mumbai.
This morning, the friend turned on his phone for 15 minutes, leading to police locating and detaining Shah.
12 persons were brought into custody, including Shah's mother and sisters.
Mihir Shah's BMW allegedly drove into a two-wheeler from behind in the Worli on July 7 morning. This crash killed Kaveri Nakhwa, 45, who was riding a pillion, while her husband Pradeep Nakhwa was injured.
The speeding car dragged Kaveri Nakhwa for around 1.5 kilometres after which Mihir Shah pulled over, swapped seats with his driver, Rajrishi Bidawat, and left in another vehicle, according to Mumbai Police.
According to authorities, Mihir Shah fled the scene in an auto-rickshaw, leaving his car and driver behind in the Kala Nagar neighbourhood. He then went to his woman friend's house in suburban Goregaon.
His friend then contacted Mihir Shah's sister, who arrived in Goregaon and drove him and his friend to her home in Borivali.
The Shah family then decided to flee to a resort in Shahapur, using an Audi. Mihir Shah's mother, Meena, sisters Kinjal and Pooja, and two friends all stayed at the resort.
