Mehul Choksi living in Belgium with wife, India seeks extradition of fugitive
PTC News Desk: Reports of fugitive Mehul Choksi's presence in Belgium have surfaced and India has sought the extradition of fugitive. According to the reports, Indian authorities have requested the Belgium authorities to initiate the extradition process.
There was no immediate confirmation of the report by Indian authorities.
Choksi, who is wanted in India in connection with a Rs 13,500-crore bank loan fraud case, was believed to be living in Antigua and Barbuda before travelling to Belgium. His wife Preeti is known to be a Belgian citizen.
The report also suggests that Choksi presented fabricated documents to obtain residency in Belgium toe vade extradition to India. He submitted fake documents with false declarations misrepresenting his nationality in his application process failing to disclose the details of his existing citizenship of India and Antigua.
Choksi and his nephew Nirav Modi allegedly siphoned off Rs 13,500 crore of public money from the state-run Punjab National Bank (PNB) using fraudulent letters of undertaking.
