Mayawati reinstates nephew Akash Anand as her heir

PTC News Desk: On Sunday, BSP chief Mayawati named her nephew Akash Anand as her political successor and restored him to the position of national coordinator for the party. At a Lucknow meeting of the party's office bearers, the decision was declared.

Akash Anand was relieved of his duties as national coordinator and her successor in May of this year. Mayawati had announced on X that he would not be allowed to continue in his positions until he had reached political maturity.

Mayawati had reiterated the party's adherence to Dr. BR Ambedkar's principles and the "ongoing movement for social change" in a number of social media posts on X in May. She asserted that because of her contribution to giving this campaign impetus, Akash Anand was named the BSP's national coordinator and proclaimed her successor.

She had stated, "But until he reaches full maturity, he is being removed from both these important responsibilities in the larger interest of the party and the movement."

The opinion experts were taken aback by the choice to dismiss him. She had not given a justification for Akash Anand's removal from the position.

In December of last year, Akash Anand was named Mayawati's replacement.

Akash Anand was arrested during the Lok Sabha election for using offensive language in an Uttar Pradesh polling station, in violation of the Model Code of Conduct.

"This administration is made up of traitors and bulldozers. A terrorist government is one that enslaves its old and feeds its kids with hunger. In Afghanistan, the Taliban maintains this kind of administration," the BSP chief had stated.

In the general elections of 2024, Mayawati's BSP, which secured ten Lok Sabha seats in the previous year, was unable to make an impression. After gaining 37 Lok Sabha seats, her erstwhile partner Akhilesh Yadav's Samajwadi Party became the only major party in Uttar Pradesh.
