Manipur violence: CRPF kills 11 Kuki militants in Jiribam after camp attack; one jawan injured

Manipur violence: At least 10 Kuki militants were killed in Manipur's Jiribam on Monday after launching an attack on a CRPF camp around 3.30 pm, according to sources. The CRPF responded promptly, killing the militants and seizing several weapons from the site. During the incident, a CRPF jawan sustained critical injuries and is currently under medical care.

Earlier that day, the militants targeted Borobekra police station, prompting return fire from the police. In addition, the attackers set fire to three to four abandoned homes belonging to the Meitei community in Jakuradhor.

In a separate incident on Sunday, violence erupted in the Sanasabi paddy fields of Imphal East district, where a jawan from the 4th Mahar Regiment was lightly wounded in a gunfight with suspected militants. The confrontation started around 10 am when militants targeted farmers harvesting paddy in the Meitei-populated areas of Sanasabi Loukol and nearby Thamnapokpi village.

Security forces, including the Imphal East district police, the 4th Mahar Regiment, and the 119th Battalion of the Border Security Force (BSF), engaged in a 40-minute firefight with the attackers. This violence followed earlier clashes that claimed the lives of two civilians on Friday and Saturday. One incident involved the killing of a 31-year-old woman in Jiribam, while another saw a 34-year-old woman fatally injured by gunfire while working in paddy fields in Bishnupur district.

Tensions continued to rise with intense gunfire exchanged between security forces and suspected Kuki militants at Thamnapokpi and Sanasabi on Saturday night. The skirmish began around 9.30 pm and lasted until 2 am Sunday, with sporadic shots fired until 4 am. The ongoing conflict in Manipur has resulted in more than 200 deaths to date.
