Man swallows 39 coins, 37 magnets which helped him in body-building

Delhi : In a bizarre incident, 26-year-old man swallowed 39 coins and 37 magnets which have been removed by doctors at S Ganga Ram Hospital in Delhi from a man's intestines. 

The patient, afflicted with a psychiatric disorder, ingested the coins and magnets believing that zinc would aid in bodybuilding.

The shocking incident came to limelight when man came to the emergency department of Sir Ganga Ram Hospital, experiencing persistent vomiting and abdominal discomfort lasting over 20 days. Additionally, the patient was unable to consume food.

The X-ray of the patient also showed radio-opaque shadows in his abdomen with the shape of coins and magnets. A CT scan of the abdomen showed a huge load of coins and magnets causing blockage of the intestine. 

During the surgical procedure, it was discovered that the magnets and coins were situated in separate loops within the small intestine. The magnetic force caused these loops to attract each other, resulting in erosion. The intestines were surgically opened to remove the coins and magnets, and the affected loops were then reconnected using two separate anastomoses. Furthermore, upon inspection of the stomach, a significant quantity of coins and magnets was also found. The stomach was subsequently opened to extract all the coins and repair it.

 As per the statement by doctors, a total of 39 coins (Rs 1, 2, 5 coins) and 37 magnets (heart, spherical, star, bullet and triangle shapes) were recovered from 26-year-old man stomach.
