Man ends life after Ganesh pandal organisers refuse to turn down loud music

PTC News Desk: A 55-year-old man suffering from a heart condition allegedly killed himself in Chhattisgarh's Durg district after being harassed by Ganesh pandal organisers over a dispute about loud music.

According to police, the victim, Dhannu Lal Sahu (55), protested to loud music being played from a Ganesh pandal near his house in the Hathkhoj neighbourhood on Saturday. He asked the organisers to turn down the music, but when they refused, the conversation quickly turned into an argument.

"According to preliminary information, Dhannu Lal Sahu and his family protested to loud music at a Ganpati pandal near their home on Saturday night. Despite being informed that Sahu had a heart ailment, the pandal organisers did not turn down the music," a police official stated.

Sahu dialled the police helpline 112, and a police team arrived on the scene and got the organisers to lower the level. However, in a suicide letter, the victim claimed that the pandal organisers had harassed him.

"The fight between Sahu and the organisers continued, with both parties arriving at the police station but not filing a report. On Sunday morning, he was found hanging from the ceiling of his home. We found a note apparently written by Sahu, accusing a pandal organiser of harassing him. We are verifying its authenticity," the police stated.

A case of accidental death has been registered under the relevant sections. Further investigation is underway.
