PTC News Desk: Maharashtra has reported its first death from Guillain-Barre Syndrome (GBS) after a patient in Pune passed away due to the rare neurological condition.

The number of GBS cases in Pune has now risen to 101, prompting growing concerns among health officials.

The death occurred at a private hospital in Solapur. The patient had been suffering from diarrhea and also showed signs of cough and cold. He was admitted to the ICU on January 18, and after his condition improved, he was moved to a regular room. However, his health deteriorated when he began having trouble breathing, and he died shortly after being readmitted to the ICU.

Pune is facing a surge in GBS cases, with 28 new cases reported in the past 24 hours, bringing the total to 101. Currently, 16 patients are on ventilators. Among the cases, 19 children under 9 years old have been affected, and 23 cases have been reported in individuals aged 50 to 80. Laboratory tests have confirmed the presence of Campylobacter jejuni bacteria, a known trigger for GBS.
