Maha Kumbh 2025: Shocking surge in flight tickets as travel to Prayagraj costs double than London
The Maha Kumbh, held every twelve years, is one of the largest religious congregation commenced on January 13 and will conclude on February 26. Millions of devotees from across the globe are fly to Prayagraj to pay obeisance and take a holy dip in the sacred confluence of the Ganga, Yamuna, and the mythical Saraswati rivers. The event is believed to cleanse sins and bring spiritual enlightenment.
However amid the influx of devotees flown to Prayagraj what has drawn attention is the exorbitant air fares. Several users on social media have pointed out that travelling to Praygaraj from New Delhi is now costlier than travelling to London.
A significant surge in ticket fares of flight has been reported in view of the upcoming major events including Mouni Amavasya on January 29, Basant Panchami on February 3 and Magh Purnima on February 12.
A SpiceJet flight from Delhi to Prayagraj, with a 14-hour 45-minute layover in Mumbai, costs a whopping Rs 31,606. Meanwhile, an Etihad Airways flight from Delhi to London, with a 22-hour 55-minute layover in Abu Dhabi, is available for Rs 24,093.
For the unversed, the usual flight ticket from New Delhi to Prayagraj costs somewhat around Rs 10k to 15k and flight ticket from Mumbai to Prayagraj costs almost the same, However in view of the congregation, the fares have been doubled and ticket for the same routes now cost around Rs 50 to 60k.
