Is Lohri on January 13 or 14? The auspicious harvest festival of Punjab - Lohri is around the corner and the enthusiastic people across the country are gearing up to celebrate the occasion with a lavish feast, bonfire, and some bhangra.
Symbolising the ripening of winter crops, delicious food, enjoyment with family and friends, along with traditional folk songs and dance, Lohri is widely celebrated by the people of Haryana and Punjab, particularly by the Hindu and Sikh communities.

Lohri, which also goes by the names Lohadi and Lal Loi, falls the day before Makar Sankranti.
Though, the nation eagerly awaits for the auspicious harvest festival, there is uncertainty regarding the exact date for celebrating Lohri, as confusion has arisen over whether it should be observed on January 13 or 14.

Is Lohri on January 13 or 14? Know date 

The precise day on which Lohri should be celebrated is unclear this year. Many people are confused as to whether it falls on January 13 or 14. According to Drik Panchang, Lohri is scheduled to be celebrated on Sunday, January 14, 2024. This suggests that Makar Sankranti, a related festival, is anticipated to take place on Monday, January 15, 2024.

Lohri 2024: Significance & Celebration 

Lohri holds cultural and religious significance primarily in the northern regions of India, especially among the Punjabi community. It marks the culmination of winter and the arrival of longer days.
Lohri is a festival to celebrate fertility and the joy of life. In the villages, while harvested fields and farms are lit up with bonfires, there is much more to it. Since the cold winter morning, people start roaming around to collect branches for the classic bonfire.
In the evening, people gather for 'Parikrama' and they throw munchies like popcorn, puffed rice as well as rewari in bonfire.
