Light rain and fog lower visibility in Delhi; air quality remains 'very poor'
PTC Web Desk: Delhi woke up to light rain and dense fog on Friday morning, reducing visibility across the national capital. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) recorded the city's lowest temperature at 12°C and a maximum of 20°C for the day. The IMD has forecasted more thunderstorms and rain for the weekend, bringing additional showers to the city.
Local resident Deepak Pandey said, “The weather feels pleasant, like Kashmir. It’s cold, but the rain has lowered pollution levels.” Raman Kushwaha, a tourist from Madhya Pradesh, added, “The weather is great for sightseeing, and the rain has also reduced pollution.”

Visuals from Kartavya Path depicted light drizzle, creating pleasant weather but dense fog in the area. Despite the improved conditions, Delhi’s air quality remains concerning, with the Air Quality Index (AQI) at a “very poor” 371 as of 7 a.m. According to the Central Pollution Control Board (CPCB), AQI readings from across the city include Anand Vihar (398), IGI Airport (340), Aya Nagar (360), Lodhi Road (345), ITO (380), Chandani Chowk (315), and Punjabi Bagh (386).
Although the Central Government revoked Stage IV measures under the Graded Response Action Plan (GRAP) on December 24 due to improved air quality, Stage I, II, and III actions remain in place to curb further pollution. This decision came after favourable meteorological conditions, such as improved wind speed, were reported by the IMD and Indian Institute of Tropical Meteorology (IITM). Stage IV measures, which included restrictions on industrial activities, construction, and non-essential truck entries, had been activated when AQI levels crossed the 400 mark earlier this month.
