RBI extends last date to exchange, return Rs 2,000 notes at banks | Check details
PTC Web Desk: The Reserve Bank of India on Saturday extended the last date to exchange or return Rs 2,000 notes at banks till October 7.
Earlier in the day, the Reserve Bank of India (RBI) had stated that Rs 2,000 denomination banknote would lose its value after September 30. "If not exchanged at a bank, it would be considered as mere paper," as per a report by news agency ANI.
On May 19, the RBI withdrew the Rs 2,000 notes from circulation and provided approximately four months to deposit or exchange these notes. The RBI's initially set deadline for this process was September 30.
Those who are yet to exchange the currency can visit their nearest bank branch to exchange or deposit their Rs 2,000 notes. Additionally, these notes can be exchanged or deposited at bank branches and regional branches of the RBI. Even non-account holders have the option to exchange Rs 2,000 banknotes, with a limit of ₹20,000 at a time, at any bank branch.
