Landslide & flash floods hits Sikkim, thousands of tourists stranded
Landslide in Sikkim: A landslide hit Sikkim’s Gangtok, causing major destruction of highways and closure of National Highway 10.
Due to the landslide and flash flash floods about 2000-3000 tourists were stranded in the blocked roads of North Sikkim.
The Pegong area in North Sikkim was reportedly affected the most.

Meanwhile, several roads of North Sikkim, route from Mangan to Chungthang has been blocked has also been blocked with tourists stranded on both sides of the highway.
As per the information collected, 1,975 domestic and 36 foreign tourists were stranded at hotels in Lachen and Lachung areas due to the blocked roads and routes.
Some foreign tourists were also stranded in Sikkim – 23 tourists from Bangladesh, 10 tourists from US and 3 from Singapore.
Due to the landslide following flash floods and heavy rains, trips and plans of foreign and domestic tourists have been interrupted as Sikkim Administration have cancelled the permit of tourists at Tsomgo Lake, Baba Mandir, Nathula and North Sikkim till further notice.
Meanwhile, the road clearance operation began and is underway.
