Kurukshetra: Woman posing as cop for a year arrested after friend goes missing

PTC Web Desk: A young woman, who had been impersonating a police officer for nearly a year while wearing official uniforms, has been arrested by the Kurukshetra police. The woman, identified as Aanchal, was found with both constable and ASI uniforms in her possession. Several of her social media reels, in which she appeared in police attire, had recently gone viral.

The incident came to light when a girl from a village near Pehowa went missing two days ago. Concerned, the girl’s mother filed a missing person report at Sadar Police Station, Pehowa. She told the police that her daughter had last been seen with her friend Aanchal from Diwana village, who she believed was serving as a constable in the Haryana Police. When confronted, Aanchal allegedly tried to intimidate the family, raising further suspicion.

The ASI, who was handling the case, summoned Aanchal for questioning. She claimed that she had dropped her friend off at the Pehowa bus stand before heading to her duty. However, when asked to show her police ID, she said she had forgotten it at home. Later, she claimed she was posted at KUK (Kurukshetra University) police station.

To verify the claim, the investigation officer contacted the KUK station — only to discover that no such officer named Aanchal was employed there. At the time of interrogation, Aanchal was not wearing a uniform, which allowed police personnel to detain her without causing a scene.

SHO Jagdish Kumar of Sadar Police Station confirmed that an FIR has been registered against Aanchal. She was presented before the court and has since been sent to jail. The missing girl was later recovered safely from Ambala and reunited with her family.

The police are currently investigating how Aanchal acquired official police uniforms and whether she used them to gain any illegal advantage.

Aanchal holds a BSc degree but reportedly has no connection with her family. For the past year, she had been masquerading as a police officer, even attending public events dressed in full uniform. Her videos in police attire are still circulating on Instagram, despite official rules that prohibit police personnel from making social media reels in uniform.
