PTC Web Desk: An 18-year-old student preparing for the National Eligibility Cum Entrance Test (NEET) has allegedly ended his life in Kota, Rajasthan. The student's body was found hanging in his paying guest (PG) accommodation in the Vigyan Nagar area. Hailing from Odisha, the student had moved to Kota for his NEET preparations.

Upon receiving the information, the police reached the scene. The deceased’s family has been informed, and the body has been kept at the mortuary. A post-mortem will be conducted once the family reaches Kota, according to the police.

This marks the third such case in Kota within just 17 days. Last week, two students preparing for the Joint Entrance Examination (JEE) also died by suicide in separate incidents. One of them, a 20-year-old from Guna, Madhya Pradesh, was found hanging in his PG room on January 8. The other, identified as Neeraj, 19, from Haryana, was discovered in a similar condition in his hostel room on January 7. No suicide notes were found in any of the cases.

The recurring tragedies have intensified concerns about the mental health challenges faced by students in Kota. However, the Kota district administration reports a significant drop in student suicides in 2024. According to official figures, 19 student suicide cases have been reported this year, down from 29 in 2023.
