Kolkata Doctor Murder: CBI gets nod to conduct polygraph tests on ex-Principal of RG Kar, 4 others
Kolkata Doctor Murder: CBI will carry out a polygraph test after failing to get a satisfactory response from RG Kar Hospital's former Principal Sandip Ghosh. Four other doctors who were on duty the night of the 31-year-old doctor's r@pe and murder will take the test with him.
A special court granted the agency permission to conduct the test on Thursday.
The results of a polygraph test, while not admissible in court, are frequently said to steer investigators on the right path.
For the past week, the Central Investigation Agency has grilled the former Principal every day. But officials say they have yet to receive a satisfactory response.
The agency had asked the court for permission to conduct a polygraph test due to apparent discrepancies in Ghosh's statements during questioning.
"We need to verify Ghosh's answers because there have been discrepancies in some of his responses to our questions. As a result, we're considering taking a polygraph test on him," an official said.
Both the Supreme Court and the Calcutta High Court have consistently focused on his role, raising numerous doubts.
Even today, the Supreme Court questioned why the case was filed as unnatural death. A case of unnatural death is typically filed when there is no official complaint. The court ruled that in such instances, the head of the institution must file a formal complaint.
"Why did the Principal not come to file the FIR? Was anyone stopping him? Why was he transferred to another hospital? The court wants to know the reason for all this," CJI Chandrachud asked.
Earlier today, the CBI claimed before the Supreme Court that the local police attempted to cover up the r@pe and murder of the post-graduate doctor and that the crime scene had changed by the time they arrived. The state strongly disagreed with this.
