Karnataka: J&K MBBS student alleges ragging at Vijayapura Medical College
PTC Web Desk: A second-year MBBS student from Jammu and Kashmir has alleged severe ragging and assault by senior students at Al-Ameen Medical College in Karnataka’s Vijayapura. The victim, Hameem, hailing from Anantnag, claims he was harassed, humiliated, and physically attacked by seniors from the 2019 batch following a cricket match on Tuesday evening.
According to Hameem, the incident began around 4 pm when he was watching a match between the 2019 and 2022 batches on the college premises. A senior reportedly instructed him to stay outside the boundary line, which he obeyed without protest. However, tensions escalated when a group of seniors confronted him, questioning his presence and demanding that he leave. When he refused, they allegedly forced him to sing and dance for their amusement.

The harassment took a more serious turn when the seniors attempted to force Hameem into a car. When he tried to record the incident on his phone, the aggressors reportedly became even more violent. Later that night, a group of 6-8 individuals stormed into his hostel room, physically assaulting him and coercing him into recording an apology video. The attackers allegedly threatened him, saying, "You have four more years here. We are locals—imagine how miserable we can make your life." They also reportedly warned him against participating in cricket for the rest of his time at the college.
The incident has sparked outrage, with Nasir Khuehami, National Convenor of the Jammu and Kashmir Students Association, strongly condemning the attack. Calling it a “deeply disturbing” case of ragging and violence, Khuehami urged Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah to take swift action against the perpetrators. "We demand strict measures to prevent such incidents and ensure the safety of students in educational institutions," he stated in a social media post.
The authorities have yet to issue an official statement on the matter, and it remains unclear whether an FIR has been lodged.
