PTC News Desk: Mangaluru police have initiated a large-scale search operation for prominent businessman Mumthaz Ali, who was reported missing on Sunday morning. Ali's BMW was discovered in a damaged condition, abandoned on the Kulur Bridge, raising concerns about his whereabouts.

Mumthaz Ali, aged 52, is the brother of Janata Dal (Secular) MLC BM Farooq and former Congress MLA Mohiuddin Bava. His sudden disappearance has sent shockwaves through the community. According to reports, Ali left his home in his BMW at around 3 am on Sunday and made his way towards Kulur Bridge. By 5 am, his vehicle was found abandoned at the bridge, damaged and with no sign of its driver.

Mangaluru's Commissioner of Police, Anupam Agarwal, confirmed the details during a press briefing. "We received information early this morning about the discovery of businessman Mumthaz Ali's vehicle near Kulur Bridge. There is a possibility that he may have jumped from the bridge. The local police promptly arrived at the scene, and a full investigation is underway," Agarwal stated.

The police have enlisted the help of the State Disaster Response Force (SDRF) and the Coast Guard to conduct a thorough search of the river, fearing the worst. The search teams are combing through the waters beneath the bridge to ascertain whether Ali might have taken his own life by jumping from the bridge.

Further details of the timeline have also emerged. According to the initial investigation, after leaving his home at 3 am, Ali appeared to drive around the city before halting his vehicle on the bridge at approximately 5 am. His BMW, bearing signs of an accident, was discovered soon after.

The alarm was raised when Ali's daughter contacted the police to report his disappearance early Sunday morning. Since then, authorities have been working around the clock to piece together what happened in the hours leading up to the discovery of his car.

As the search continues, a large crowd has gathered at the Kulur Bridge, anxiously watching the efforts of the police and rescue teams. The area has been cordoned off as the teams search the river for any signs of the businessman.

Mangaluru police are continuing their investigation, and updates on the case are expected as the search operation progresses. Ali's sudden disappearance has not only sparked widespread concern but has also led to speculation about the circumstances surrounding his vanishing, though no concrete conclusions have been drawn so far.
