Karnataka: 5-year old sexually assaulted, murdered; accused killed in police encounter
PTC News Desk: In a shocking turn of events, a five year old girl was brutally murdered after an attempted sexual assault in Karnataka's Hubbali. The accused was later killed in an encounter after an altercation with police trying to arrest him.
The deceased has been identified as Ritesh Kumar who hails from Bihar.
The incident unfolded when Ritesh took the victime girl to a secluded area and attempted to rape her. Hearing the girl's screams, locals rushed toward the shed. During this time, the accused strangled the girl to death and fled the scene.
A case under the POCSO act was registered against him. Besides, he was also charged for attacking and attempting to murder police personnel.
Shashi Kumar, Hubballi Police Commissioner said that the accused tried to flee after throwing stones at police while they were trying to establish his identity. Kumar said he shared very little information and failed to establish his identity conclusively.
"In response, our woman officer, Sub-Inspector, Annapurna, fired a warning shot in the air. When he did not stop, two to three rounds were fired at him. One bullet struck his leg, and another hit his back, to stop him from escaping. He was rushed to the hospital, where doctors declared him dead." the commissioner added.
