Kargil Vijay Diwas: Rajnath Singh affirms India's willingness to cross LoC to uphold honour
Kargil Vijay Diwas: Defence Minister Rajnath Singh arrived in Drass, Kargil district, Ladakh, to mark the 24th anniversary of Kargil Vijay Diwas. The day holds significance as it honors the brave soldiers who lost their lives during the 1999 Kargil conflict with Pakistan. At the Kargil War Memorial, situated in the icy heights of Kargil, the Raksha Mantri laid a wreath to commemorate the fallen heroes.
During the somber commemoration event, Army Chief General Manoj Pande and Navy Chief Admiral R Hari Kumar also paid their respects by offering floral tributes to the fallen jawans. Chief of Defence Staff (CDS), General Anil Chauhan, joined them in laying a wreath at the Kargil War Memorial, honoring the sacrifices made during the Kargil conflict.

A day before the commemoration, the Army held a press briefing at Lamochen, Drass. It began with an audio-visual narration, showcasing the valor and sacrifices of the jawans during the 1999 Kargil conflict against the Pakistani intruders in the rugged and unforgiving heights of Kargil.

The conflict spanned over two months, during which the Indian Army successfully pushed back the Pakistani intruders, reclaiming vantage points in Kargil and unfurling the Tricolour on the territory once occupied by the enemy. The battles took place in the Dras, Kargil, and Batalik sectors of Kargil district.

The solemn commemoration event took place against the backdrop of the majestic mountains where the soldiers had engaged in fierce battles with the Pakistani intruders. The military band's somber notes added to the mood of reverence as the soldiers gathered to honor Kargil Vijay Diwas.
The event saw the presence of war heroes, Veer Naris, Veer Matas, and relatives of the soldiers who laid down their lives while dutifully serving during the Kargil conflict. The occasion served as a reminder of the sacrifices made by these brave souls in service of the nation.
