Kangana Ranaut says farmers' protest could have led to Bangladesh-like situation, sparks another row

PTC News Desk: Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) MP Kangana Ranaut  parked another controversy by saying that the farmers' protest could have resulted in a Bangladesh-like situation if the government had not taken severe measures.

In a video posted to social media platform X, the actor claimed that "bodies were seen hanging and rapes were taking place" amid farmers' protests against the now-repealed three farm regulations.

The Mandi MP also blamed strongholds and "foreign powers" for protests that continued long after the laws were repealed.

"What happened in Bangladesh could have easily happened here as well. There is a conspiracy by foreign forces, and these filmy people profit from it. They don't care if the country goes to the dogs," she claimed.

Her words were not well received by her own party leader in Punjab. Harjit Garewal, a senior BJP leader, requested Kangana to stop making such comments.

Garewal told India Today that it is not Kangana's department to speak about farmers; Kangana's statement is personal. PM Modi and the BJP are farmer-friendly. The opposition parties are working against us, as is Kangana's comments. She should not make such statements on sensitive or religious subjects, religious organisations."

Farmer organisations have voiced their discontent with the way Kangana has once again brought up issues with farmers' protests, labelling her a "habitual offender".

Kisan Mazdoor Morcha leader Sarvan Singh Pandher said that 'Kangana is a "habitual offender". It is now a matter of investigation if she is reading from a script provided by Nagpur [the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh headquarters] or whether her outbursts are motivated by something else. We are not bothered about what she says but want to know if there is any wider conspiracy."
