J-K: Retired police cop killed after terrorists open fire while officer was offering prayers in Baramulla

Retired police officer shot dead in J-K:  In a devastating turn of events and days after an attack on two military vehicles in the Rajouri sector claimed the lives of four soldiers, retired police officer shot dead on Sunday after unidentified terrorists opened fire while officer was offering prayers in Baramulla district. 

The tragic incident unfolded when retired police officer identified as Mohammad Shafi Mir was offering prayers at a mosque and terrorists opened gun shots at him. 


After the fatal incident, the area on which the tragic incident occurred was cordoned off in the immediate aftermath of the incident.

The Kashmir Zone Police also took to X handle (former Twitter) and wrote, "#Terrorists fired upon Shri Mohd Shafi, a retired police officer at Gantmulla, Sheeri #Baramulla, while praying Azan in the mosque and succumbed to injuries. The area has been #cordoned off. Further details awaited."

After the incident, additional security forces have been deployed in the Bafliaz area of Poonch district as an operation is underway to nab terrorists in the forest area of Dera ki Gali in the Rajouri sector. 

Meanwhile, Indian Army is conducting an inquiry probe into deaths of civilians in the Poonch-Rajouri sector in the terror attack on December 21.

Notably, Rajouri encounter that resulted in the tragic loss of four soldiers, a separate infiltration attempt was successfully intercepted along the International Border (IB) in Khour, Akhnoor sector of Jammu district. 

According to the Army's statement, surveillance equipment detected the suspected movement of four terrorists during the night between December 22 and December 23.
