PTC News Desk: In a valiant act of bravery, Head Constable Bashir Ahmed, despite being injured, managed to fatally shoot a hardcore Pakistani terrorist during a fierce gunbattle in Jammu and Kashmir's Kathua district last night. The encounter, which began on the previous day, is still ongoing as security forces continue their operation.

The Additional Director General of Police for the Jammu zone, Anand Jain, confirmed the incident in a post on X (formerly Twitter), stating, “In the ongoing operation in village Kog (Mandli), Kathua Police HC Bashir Ahmed made the ultimate sacrifice in the line of duty, heroically taking down a terrorist. While he succumbed to his injuries, the other officers, including Deputy SP Sukhbir and ASI Niaz, are stable.”

The operation commenced after police received intelligence about three to four terrorists hiding in the village. As a joint security team approached, the terrorists opened fire, igniting a gunfight. During this intense exchange, Head Constable Bashir Ahmed sustained fatal injuries but managed to shoot one of the terrorists before succumbing to his wounds.

Following the encounter, the area has been cordoned off, and operations are underway to locate and neutralize the remaining terrorists. Senior police officials emphasized that efforts against terrorist activities would continue, especially as the Union Territory prepares for its first Assembly election since the revocation of its special status in 2019.

"We are receiving continuous intelligence about terrorist movements and are conducting operations with the aim of neutralising them as swiftly as possible," Jain stated. He assured that adequate security measures are being implemented in all polling areas to ensure a violence-free environment during the upcoming third phase of voting.

The tragic loss of Head Constable Bashir Ahmed serves as a stark reminder of the dangers faced by security personnel in their line of duty, particularly in regions grappling with terrorism and violence. His bravery and sacrifice will not be forgotten as the community honors his commitment to protecting the public.
