Voting for first phase Jharkhand assembly elections, Wayanad parliamentary bypolls underway
PTC News Desk: Polling for the first phase of Jharkhand assembly elections, Wayanad Lok Sabha bypolls and bypolls in 33 assembly seats across 11 states in underway.
Ahead of the polling, mock voting was conducted at various polling stations in Jharkhand. Visuals showed long queues of voters, including women, waiting to cast their votes.
In Jharkhand, BJP is eyeing to oust the JMM-led coalition and has fielded former chief minister Champai Soren in the field against Congress leader Ajoy Kumar in the fray. First phase spanning across 43 seats. The voting will take place in two phases with polling for second phase to be conducted on November 20.
Congress General Secretary Priyanka Gandhi has made electoral debut from Wayanad a seat previously won by her brother and leader of opposition in Lok Sabha Rahul Gandhi. She is contesting against Left Democratic Front (LDF) candidate Satyan Mokeri and the BJP's Navya Haridas in parliamentary by polls.
The results will be announced on Novermber 23. Rigorous security arrangements at poling stations have been in place and mock polling was also conducted at the polling stations. Over 200 companies of security forces are deployed in strategic locations to maintain order and safeguard the electoral process.
