J&K encounter : A Soldier martyred in an encounter between security forces and terrorists that broke out in Kulgam district of Jammu and Kashmir. Four terrorists were subsequently gunned down by the forces.
The confrontation began after the CRPF, Army, and local police initiated a joint operation based on intelligence reports indicating terrorist presence in Modergam village.
As the forces moved in and set up a cordon to trap the militants, gunfire ensued, leading to injuries. An Army soldier, critically wounded during the exchange, later succumbed to his injuries in the hospital.
Taking to the X handle, the Kashmir Zone Police said in a post, “Encounter started at Modergam Village of #Kulgam District. Police and Security Forces are on job. Further details shall follow."

The region has recently experienced a surge in terrorist activities, with multiple encounters occurring across various districts of Jammu and Kashmir. Just last month, security forces successfully neutralised three terrorists in the Gandoh area of Doda district.
