Jammu and Kashmir: 1 terrorist killed in encounter with security forces in Kupwara, soldier injured

PTC News Desk: An altercation that started on Tuesday in the Kupwara district of Jammu and Kashmir resulted in the shooting death of at least one terrorist.

The security forces in the Kupwara district's Lolab area began the anti-terrorism operation. Terrorists have been in contact with security personnel in the vicinity of Trimukha Top, Lolab, Kupwara. An operation is underway, the Kashmir Zone Police stated on 'X' in a post.



"In the days preceding July 23 and 24, the Indian Army and the Jammu and Kashmir Police conducted a Joint Search Operation in response to specific information about the presence of terrorists in the Kowut, Kupwara, general area. Terrorists launched randomly fired gunfire on July 24 after forces noticed suspicious activity and confronted them. One terrorist has been eliminated and an NCO has been hurt in the ensuing firefight. The Chinar Corps of the Indian Army stated in a post on X that "operation is in progress."


The operation went on through the night, allegedly with sporadic gunfire between security personnel and a number of militants who were well-armed.

At the time this news item was written, the encounter was still ongoing.

At least two terrorists were also eliminated by the security forces earlier this week when they thwarted an attempt to infiltrate the Kupwara district near the Line of Control (LoC).

Based on intelligence reports regarding the terrorists' attempts to sneak into the Valley along the Line of Control in the Keran area of the north Kashmir district, the encounter was initiated.

The terrorists were confronted by the vigilant security personnel who had observed their movements. The exchange of fire claimed the lives of two terrorists.
