Jaipur: Drunk car driver kills three, critically injures 6 as SUV ploughs through narrow streets for 7 km
PTC Web Desk: In a horrifying incident reported late last night in Jaipur, a heavily intoxicated factory owner drove a speeding SUV through the city’s crowded roads, leaving a trail of chaos and devastation. The vehicle rammed into pedestrians and vehicles over a 7-km stretch, killing three persons, including a woman, and seriously injuring six others.
The incident took place at 9.30 pm on MI Road, where initial reports of a speeding car crashing into multiple vehicles were received. The driver, identified as 62-year-old Usman Khan, later veered into narrow lanes in the Nahargarh area, further intensifying the panic.
According to Additional DCP (North) Bajrang Singh Shekhawat, the most damage occurred within a 500-metre radius near the Santosh Mata Mandir in the Nahargarh police station limits. Accused Usman Khan first rammed into two-wheelers and then mercilessly ran over people lying on the road. In his reckless spree, he even collided with vehicles parked outside the local police station.
The deceased have bene identified as Mamta Kanwar (50), Virendra Singh (48), and Awadhesh Pareek (37). Virendra Singh, a resident of Shastri Nagar, succumbed to injuries on Tuesday morning. The other victims include Monesh Soni (28), Mohammad Jalaluddin (44), Deepika Saini (17), Vijay Narayan (65), Zebunnisa (50), and Anshika (24), all of whom sustained critical injuries.
Eyewitnesses reported that Khan, after striking several people near the temple, attempted to flee. He continued to hit people and vehicles until his SUV got stuck in a congested lane. Local residents chased him down and helped the police apprehend him near Sanjay Circle, approximately one km from the last crash site.
Khan, a resident of Rana Colony in Shastri Nagar, owns a metal bed manufacturing unit in Vishwakarma Industrial Area. His medical test confirmed heavy intoxication at the time of the incident. An FIR was lodged against him by the father of Mamta Kanwar.
Public outrage erupted following the incident, with large groups protesting outside the Nahargarh police station on Tuesday, demanding compensation for the families of the deceased. The authorities deployed forces from four police stations across the Nahargarh Road and adjacent areas to control the unrest.
