Jaipur fire tragedy: Death toll reaches 14, likely to rise as several bodies remain unidentified
PTC News Desk: The death toll in Jaipur gas tanker crash has climbed to 14 with the number likely to rise as more than 30 people sustained severe burn injuries with many of them being critical.
As the death toll is rising, it has been reported that the implications of the blast were so severe that many sustains burn injuries up to 75 per cent, while the fire lasted for nearly eight hours.
“Five charred bodies were received yesterday. Eight others have died. Total 14 deaths have been reported so far. Twenty-seven patients are admitted to SMS hospital and undergoing treatment. Seven are on ventilator support," Dr Sushil Bhati, Sawai Man Singh (SMS) Hospital Superintendent, said.
Several videos of the incident have surfaced online showing charred hunks of metal left behind reportedly of the vehicles. Bulldozers can also be seen trying to clear the wreckage so that the road can be used for traffic again.
The horrific accident took place on Friday when LPG tanker rammed into truck resulting in massive fire. The gas leak led to rapid spread of fire leaving no time for the commuters to come out of their vehicles and burning them to death on the spot.
