Jain monk killed, body cut into pieces in Karnataka

Karnataka, July 9: In a shocking incident, a Jain monk was killed, his body was dismembered and dumped in a borewell at a village in Belagavi district of Karnataka, police said.

The butchered body parts were discovered in a well in the district's Chikkodi taluk.


In light of the heinous incident, Chief Minister Siddaramaiah formed an inquiry team and directed officials to properly investigate the case.

According to authorities, two people have been arrested in this case: Narayana Basappa Madi and Hassan Dalayath.

According to authorities, the victim, Acharya Sri Kamakumara Nandi Maharaj, was residing at Nandi Parvata Jain Basadi for the previous 15 years.

Missing since Thursday

The monk was missing from his ashram since Thursday morning.

The police initiated a search for the monk on Friday after the president of the Hirekodi Jain Charitable Trust Bheemappa Ugare filed a complaint. Late at night, it was discovered that the monk had been killed and that one of his acquaintances was involved.

Patil told reporters on Saturday that a person who knew the monk and had been living in the same ashram for a few years had acknowledged to killing and disposing of the body with the help of an aide. Patil stated that the monk had given the accused money from a charitable trust as support and had lately requested him to repay it.

According to the trustees of the ashram, the monk insisted on the acquaintance returning the money as soon as possible.

Cops deployed

The search for a missing Jain monk in Belagavi district came to an end on Saturday with the gruesome discovery of his murder and the recovery of his body parts from an open defunct borewell in a field at Katakabavi in the district's Raibag taluk.
