ISRO's weather monitoring satellite INSAT-3DS lifts off from Sriharikota

PTC News Desk: The Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) on Saturday successfully launched its meteorological satellite INSAT-3DS aboard GSLV F14 from the Sriharikota spaceport.

The satellite will monitor weather forecasts and natural disaster warnings.

During its 16th mission, the GSLV launched the INSAT-3DS meteorological satellite into Geosynchronous Transfer Orbit (GTO). Subsequent orbit-raising manoeuvres will ensure that the satellite is positioned in geostationary orbit.

The satellite, weighing 2,274 kg, will serve several departments within the Ministry of Earth Sciences, including the Indian Meteorological Department (IMD), according to ISRO.

This is ISRO's second mission in 2024, following the successful launch of the PSLV-C58/EXPOSAT mission on January 1.
