Indore temple tragedy: Bulldozer roll in to demolish illegal structure
Indore, April 03: Few days after the horrific accident that killed 36 people at the Beleshwar Mahadev Jhulelal temple in Madhya Pradesh's Indore. On Monday, the state civic body demolished the illegal structure at the temple where a stepwell had collapsed last week and it claimed 36 lives.
The local authorities had been aware of the illegal structure for quite some time, but due to the lack of resources, they had been unable to take any action. However, after the tragedy, the local administration swung into action and ordered a bulldozer to demolish the structure.

This crackdown came right after the slab constructed on top of the 'bawdi' (stepwell) at the Beleshwar Mahadev Jhulelal temple caved in. Several devotees plunged into the water reservoir during a Ram Navami occassion on Thursday.
The tragedy was reported as one of the worst in Indore's history. According to report police personnel from four different stations have been deployed to prevent any possible resistance. The District Magistrate, Deputy Municipal Commissioner, and other officials are also present at the spot.
According to reports, the stepwell roof broke due to the huge gatherings of the crowds and it could not carry the weight on Ram Navami. At the time of the tragedy a havan was being performed. The temple is located at Sneh Nagar and is managed by a private trust.
The temple was built in the 18th century by a local king and had a significant place in the hearts of the local people. As per to the information, the 200-year-old stepwell was covered with four iron girders, a the layer was not strong enough to hold the weight of the crowd that gathered to offer puja on Ram Navami.
The incident has led to a huge uproar in the city and has highlighted the need for proper infrastructure and safety measures in and around the temple. The local administration has promised to take strict action against those responsible for the illegal structure and to ensure that such an incident does not happen again.
