'Individuals doing good work often overlooked,' says Nitin Gadkari
PTC News Desk: Union Minister Nitin Gadkari injected a touch of humor into politics by remarking that individuals who perform admirably rarely receive the recognition they deserve, regardless of the ruling political party. Conversely, those who falter often escape punishment, he added, without singling out any specific figures.
Speaking light-heartedly, Gadkari quipped, "I always say this jokingly that no matter which party's government it is, one thing is sure, that the one who does good work never gets respect and those who do bad work are never punished," as quoted by PTI.
Expressing concern over the rise of opportunistic leaders, Gadkari emphasised the dwindling numbers of politicians firmly rooted in ideology. He cautioned that this erosion of ideology was detrimental to democracy. Gadkari's remarks were made at an event in Delhi organised by Lokmat Media Group, where parliamentary awards were presented for outstanding contributions.
He stressed the importance of substantive work in constituencies, asserting that while popularity and publicity were significant, the true measure of a parliamentarian's worth lay in their actions for their constituents. Gadkari also paid tribute to the oratory skills of Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) supremo Lalu Yadav and highlighted the influence of former Defense Minister George Fernandes's demeanor and simplicity on his own approach.

Referencing the recent posthumous award of the Bharat Ratna to former Bihar Chief Minister Karpoori Thakur, Gadkari lauded such figures for their contributions in strengthening the nation's democracy. He urged politicians to draw inspiration from individuals like Thakur, who remained connected to the grassroots even after holding high office.
