India slams Bangladesh over abduction, killing of Hindu leader: 'Systematic persecution'

PTC News Desk: India has launched strong diplomatic rebuke over abduction and killing of a Hindu leader in Bangladesh. The Ministry of External Affairs called upon Yunus government to live upto his responsibility of protecting all minorities including Hindus.

"We have noted with distress the abduction and brutal killing of Shri Bhabesh Chandra Roy, a Hindu minority leader in Bangladesh," Ministry of External Affairs official spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal said in a statement.

"This killing follows a pattern of systematic persecution of Hindu minorities under the interim government even as the perpetrators of previous such events roam with impunity," Jaiswal further said.

MEA spokesperson while Reiterating India's earlier stance on minorities said, "We condemn this incident and once again remind the interim government to live up to its responsibility of protecting all minorities, including Hindus, without inventing excuses or making distinctions."

According to the local media reports, Bhabesh Chandra Roy, Hindu leader was absucted from his premises in North bangladesh and taken to Narabari village, where he was allegedly beaten up. He was sent back home in an unconscious state following which he was immediately rushed to the nearby hospital where doctors declared him brought dead.

Following the arrest of Hindu Monk Chinmoy Das last year at Dhaka airport, India had reiterated its stance and reminded Bangladesh of protesting the rights of the Hindus.

Even Jaiswal urged the Yunus administration to protect minorities, while stating that the reported acts of violence against minorities can't be dismissed as mere "media exaggeration."
