Income Tax raid at Hemant Soren's close aide's residence ahead of Jharkhand polls
PTC News Desk: The Income Tax Department is conducting raids at Sunil Srivastava's residence, who is claimed to be a close aide and personal secretary to Jharkhand Chief Minister Hemant Soren.
According to sources, the raids in Ranchi and Jamshedpur include nine distinct locations.
More information is awaited.
Notably, this comes just days before the assembly elections in Jharkhand. The Jharkhand Mukti Morcha (JMM), led by Chief Minister Soren and supported by the Congress, RJD, and left parties, is up against stiff competition from the state's Bharatiya Janata Party-led NDA alliance.
In June, the Jharkhand High Court granted bail to Jharkhand Chief Minister Hemant Soren in connection with an alleged land scam. The Enforcement Directorate (ED) detained Hemant Soren in January on accusations of alleged land scam and money laundering.
The 81-member Jharkhand Assembly will hold elections in two stages on November 13 and 20, with vote counting slated for November 23.
